H4R Scavenger Hunt 2014

 Spirit Champs

Our first Idol location

Saturday, 6 women came together once again for the 3rd Annual Hope for Riley Scavenger Hunt as The Duchenne Destroyers AKA The Double D's. The H4R Scavenger Hunt is a fund raiser a local family has organized to help raise awareness, as well as aid in their son, Riley's, treatments. Riley was diagnosed with a disease called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) in 2008.
Five of my friends and I have participated in the event for the last three years, and every year we have a BLAST.

At the start of the hunt, each team is given a list of items to find and photos to take. The items on the list are completely random, ranging anywhere from a purple key, to a school report card from 1985. Each team can also complete the "Idol Challenge." Along with the list at the beginning of the hunt, we received an Idol Clue, which is a riddle leading you to a location. At each location we were given either a challenge or puzzle to solve in order to get the next Idol Clue. At the 7th location we received "The Idol" which is worth points as well as the items and the photos.

At the end of the hunt, each team's points are tallied and the winner receives a cash prize.
The second year, a new award was added, The Spirit Award. This award goes to the team that shows the most "Team Spirit" throughout the hunt. That team just so happens to be the Double D's for both years now! We made cardboard D's, we bought megaphones, face tattoos, and we cheered as loudly as we possibly could. We are basically unbeatable. :)

We may not win 1st prize, but we sure have a lot of fun spreading awareness and helping a 12 year old boy with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

XOXO The Double D's

Music | Top Tunes

I have a true love for music, all types of music... Well, maybe there are a couple of genres I prefer not to tune in to, but for the most part I relish a wide range of melodies. I also manage to rediscover my love for an oldie from time to time. Usually, my playlist changes from week to week.  Here are a few of the songs I have on my playlist this week.

Hozier|Work Song

Jonathan Clay|Heart on Fire

Troye Sivan|Touch

Reo Speedwagon|Time for Me to Fly

Fancy Sandwiches

So simple, yet so delish. Tonight, for supper, I made "fancy sandwiches." Ok, so maybe it's not fancy, but I really didn't know what else to call it, and let's admit it, it's a little more special than turkey and sliced bread.

I used crescent rolls for the bread. I placed two rolls together, rolled them and baked as directed. I stuffed them with Italian herb turkey breast, (aka fancy turkey) pepper jack cheese, avocado, tomato, and baby spinach. I put them back in the oven for a few more minutes to melt the cheese, and voila! A fancy sandwich!

I definitely cheated with the soup. I didn't even add seasoning. It was pretty flippin' tastey if you ask me! It's the Campbell's Slow Kettle Style Tomato And Sweet Basil Bisque. The name is a mouth full, (pun intended) but I honestly enjoyed every single bite.

I was totally satisfied with my "fancy" supper, and now I'm stuffed and ready for bed... Fancy dreams boys and girls!

Beach For The Day

This past weekend, my sister and I decided to take a trip to Florida "for the day." Yep,we planned a 4 hour ride just to spend a few hours on the beach and eat at our favorite restaurant. My sister used to live in the Ft. Walton Beach area, so the drive didn't seem as silly to us, considering the multiple times I'd traveled to her house just for the weekend.

We'd planned the trip a couple weeks in advance. We would leave at 7 am, get to the area around 12, grab some lunch, head to the beach, sunbathe until around 7, then head home, but not before having supper at Azteca Mexican Restaurant in Crestview. I was pretty excited to spend my one day on the beach. Friday rolled around and I decided to go out for drinks with friends, knowing we were leaving at 7 am. 3:30 am rolls around and I'm climbing into bed. Luckily, I wasn't the one driving, so I got to get some more sleep.

When we finally made it to the beach, we realized the particular beach we were going to closed at 5. You're probably thinking "what beach closes?" What I mean is the particular parking area which had facilities equip with hot showers, so we didn't have to spend the 4 hour ride home wet and sandy.

We decided we would head back to the car at 4:30, so that we had time to shower before the ride home. When 4:30 rolled around, we were not quite ready to leave. We decided to find a hotel room for the night, so that we could have more beach time. We weren't quite satisfied with our tans yet. We headed to the hotel, but not before stopping at a few of the souvenir shops on the way. We picked up some supper and called it a day.

The next day we were up bright and early, had our coffee, and prepared for another day on the beach. We spent about 2 1/2 hours on the beach, and had enough. We washed up and stared our trip home. We stopped at Azteca for a late lunch, and headed west. When we got to Mississippi, we stopped to fill up, which is when we realized the damage we had done to our skin that morning.

I have NEVER been this sun-burnt in my life! Only 2 1/2 hours on the beach, and we were burnt to a crisp. I never realized how painful a sunburn could be. It hurts to walk, sit, stand, and just move. The pain is so intense, that when I try to stand, the muscles in my legs tense up. Even the bottoms of my feet are burnt! I am miserable, but I have no one to blame, but myself. I have a bad habit of tanning without sunscreen, except on my face. (I'm worried I won't get my full potential tan if I block the sun) Well, I tell you what, I learned my lesson the hard way! You live and you learn.

The moral of the story, ALWAYS wear sunscreen, boys and girls!
